Dr Phua

As an ex-NIE researcher, Dr. Phua can relate to students from all backgrounds with far greater ease than your conventional teacher. Having worked in several areas of educational research with fieldwork and class observations at different MOE schools, she is interested in using her rich research insights to develop better classroom experiences for her students.

Adding on to her already impressive resume, Dr Phua holds postgraduate degrees from the University of Cambridge and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a testament to her rich knowledge of socio-political issues in Singapore, Southeast Asia and South Asia. She has specialised in urban cultural studies, and anthropology and holds a Ph.D. in religion and kinship. Her experience and mastery of the aforementioned issues and topics have translated to her ability to critically evaluate core arguments, identifying even the finest of nuances and tensions. Prof. Chua

As a recent ex-MOE teacher for over ten years, Prof Chua has taught General Paper and Project Work at multiple top JCs in Singapore. In recognition of his outstanding work in curriculum design and resource creation as Head of General Paper, Prof Tan received several accolades and was even deployed to oversee an enrichment lecture series for academically-inclined students.

Prof Chua was a recipient of the prestigious Public Service Commission (PSC) Teaching Scholarship during his undergraduate years. Subsequently, he pursued a Masters degree in Modern Languages, Literature and Culture at King’s College London and a PhD in Cultural Studies in Asia from the National University of Singapore. In his earnest pursuit to share his knowledge with students, Prof Chua then taught undergraduate courses at the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University in the humanities and social sciences departments. He received a Teaching Award for excellent teaching during his time as a university lecturer.

In his extensive career as a teacher, Prof Chua has consistently demonstrated a deep passion and commitment towards helping students unlock their full potential. Currently, he is devoting himself fully to helping students navigate the challenges of General Paper, to better understand how our complex society works and acquire a heightened sensitivity towards the beauty of words.

Ms Lam

Director of Studies (Online Programme); Cluster Leader (Society & Culture Unit)

As an ex- MOE GP tutor who has taught in two prestigious junior colleges in Singapore, Ms Lam has more than 10 years’ experience of teaching General Paper. She is very well-versed with the latest A-Level curriculum, having only left Nanyang Junior College recently. She is also a Political Science major from the National University of Singapore and she is deeply passionate about politics and current world affairs.

​Ms Lam is a highly-respected teacher who has delivered consistent results throughout her career. Ms Chung

Ms Chung is a highly accomplished ex-MOE teacher who has taught at various top secondary schools for close to a decade, including her alma mater, Raffles Girls’ School. She was also the English Language Coordinator at Seng Kang Secondary School.

In acknowledgement of her excellent teaching abilities, Ms Chung received the Public Service Commission Overseas Merit Scholarship for Teaching. Thereafter, she pursued her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature at a top UK university. Ms Chung also won the First Prize for the international screenwriting competition, Pitchfest, as well as First Prize for a local screenwriting competition organised by Sinema SG. Her outstanding achievements in both local and global writing circles are testament to her strong writing abilities, which Ms Chung hopes to impart to her students.

Besides her seasoned teaching experiences, Ms Chung has also worked at various government departments in the Ministry of Education and Ministry of National Development respectively, covering various portfolios from early childhood to curriculum policy. Ms Lim

Ms Lim is an ex-MOE teacher with more than 15 years’ experience, having taught General Paper, English Literature and Project Work at Hwa Chong Institution (HCI College section). She is a highly-respected teacher who has helped numerous students to achieve top grades for both General Paper and Project Work. At HCI, she has also contributed extensively to curriculum design, having created numerous materials which helped HCI students to sharpen their analytical thought for paper 1, and answering techniques for paper 2. She often taps into her rich knowledge, acquired from her time as an honours student in Philosophy at the National University of Singapore, to help students to appreciate the complexities of our modern world.


Though Ms Lim has achieved top results throughout her own academic journey (top student in English language at St Margaret’s school; straight As for A level at National Junior College), she feels that she is able to cater to students of different backgrounds. Her quest to be a versatile teacher has led to embark on an interesting journey, not only teaching students from a wide array of secondary and junior colleges such as HCI and Yishun Secondary, but also in terms of guiding foreign students who are weaker in the English Language. Mr Lee

A graduate from Nanyang Technological University’s Bachelor of Arts (Education) programme, Mr Lee has more than a decade’s worth of teaching experience under his belt. As a MOE-trained English and English Literature teacher, Mr. Lee has taught for over a decade at a number of junior colleges and secondary schools including ACJC, Nan Hua High School, Maris Stella High School, Manjusri Secondary and Jurong West Secondary. Mr Lee has since gone on to carve out a highly successful career for himself in the education sector, straddling teaching stints as an adjunct teacher with the Ministry of Education as well as a tutoring students enrolled at the Thought Tailor Learning Centre.

At present, he has been deployed as a flexi-adjunct teacher at an all-boys SAP secondary school. His duties include teaching English Language and Literature, in addition to setting test and examination papers that meet the requirements of the latest revised syllabi. Ms Dawn

Ms Dawn graduated from Raffles Junior College with As and studied English Literature at the National University of Singapore under the Ministry of Education scholarship, attaining top honours. Post graduation, she went on to the National Institute of Education to complete her Postgraduate in Education. Thereafter, she taught in school and worked in MOE, specialising in Curriculum Writing and Planning. She taught English and Literature in MOE schools, and is familiar with both the O and A level syllabus (English, Geography and Literature), as well as the IB. As an avid lover of the arts, she has completed her Masters in Art History.

As an MOE teacher, she taught Literature and General Paper at Victoria Junior College for almost 9 years, before moving on to teach at Commonwealth Secondary and Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). In the private sector, she has taught IB and IGCSE students from ACS, SJI (international), UWC, CIS, AIS and more. With diverse experience spanning in the education sector, she is an all-rounded teacher who has over 17 years of teaching expertise and a strong track record in guiding students through writing and analysis components. Mr Wee

Mr. Gabriel Wee is a NIE-trained JC lecturer who has lectured and tutored General Paper at Raffles Institution (JC), Temasek and Catholic Junior Colleges, and  also O-level English Language at an autonomous Secondary School in Singapore. As a school teacher, his graduating General Paper classes’ Distinction Rates and quality grades have consistently surpassed those of the respective college cohort’s general average.

Besides his 20 years of professional teaching experience with the Ministry of Education, Mr. Wee has also been a Subject Head at Indigo Education Centre. He lectured and tutored A-level General Paper, O-level English Language and Integrated Programme (IP) English Language & Language Arts programs.

Ms Raihanah

Ms Raihanah holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the National University of Singapore. She is an ex-MOE teacher/Head of Department, with more than 15 years of experience teaching English Language to primary and secondary students. When she was with the MOE, she was also given a rare opportunity to serve as a curriculum officer at MOE headquarters, with the Curriculum Planning and Development Division. This department at MOE oversees the design, implementation and review of syllabus and modes of assessment in MOE schools and it gave her valuable experience learning about curriculum design and implementation. Her work at CPDD and also as a HOD in a secondary school also included the training of teachers, to meet the pedagogical needs in MOE classrooms. 

Widely respected as an educator, Ms. Raihanah is a strong believer in student-centred learning, in which learning is customised to each student’s unique abilities. She actively strives to create lessons aimed to engage students, as well as a nurturing environment for every student to grow.

Ms Sanusha

Ms Sanusha is a recipient of the prestigious Public Service Commission (PSC) scholarship for her undergraduate studies at University of Cambridge where she read Economics. She has worked at the Ministry of Finance and other postings within the public service on fiscal, healthcare and social service policy as well as leadership development. Currently, as a facilitator and educator, she has experience in university admissions consulting, community building projects and has taught General Paper across various centres such as School of Thought and Indigo. She also holds a MBA from the Quantic School of Business and Technology.

Passionate about social issues and an avid volunteer in the youth development space for the past 7 years, she brings a real world understanding of systems thinking and social innovation to the classroom. Mr Jarrod

An English and Literature teacher by training, Mr. Jarrod has taught at various mainstream Singapore national schools including Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) and School of Science and Technology (SST). He is an MOE Teaching Scholar (Public Service Commission), with a postgraduate Diploma in Education (with Credit).

Mr. Jarrod has also taught, developed and administered the curriculum for Primary and Secondary levels at various institutions. His previous appointments as Department Coordinator, English Language and Literature, have provided him with not just classroom experience but opportunities for conducting teacher and parent workshops as well. Subsequently, his position as the Head of Department of English strengthened his skills of classroom management and student engagement. Mr. Jarrod is credited with several firsts – pioneering the International Baccalaureate Programme at HCI, as well as developing the curriculum with Applied Learning Principles at the School of Science and Technology, Singapore. He is familiar with the latest syllabus requirements for the O level, N level, IP and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs.

Mr Ravi

Mr. Ravi is a former MOE-trained GP lecturer who has taught at a number of JCs in Singapore. Ms Suba is an ex-MOE teacher with 15 years of experience. Ms Tham is a Psychology major from the National University of Singapore. Her love for the English language began as a child, where she found herself captivated by the written word through works of fiction and literature.
